What is Calisthenics?

Calisthenics are exercises consisting of a variety of gross motor movements – running, standing, grasping, pushing, etc. – often performed rhythmically and with minimal equipment, so essentially, bodyweight exercises. They are intended to increase body strength, body fitness, and flexibility, through movements such as pulling or pushing oneself up, bending, jumping, or swinging, using only one’s body weight for resistance; usually conducted in concert with stretches. When performed vigorously and with variety, calisthenics can provide the benefits of muscular and aerobic conditioning, in addition to improving psychomotor skills such as balance, agility and coordination.

Urban calisthenics are a form of street workout; calisthenics groups perform exercise routines in urban areas. Individuals and groups train to be able to perform advanced calisthenics skills such as muscle-ups, barspins, and both front and back levers. (Wikipedia)

Defianz Calisthenics - Pull up

Back and Bi’s

Alternating weekly between Monday’s and Thursdays, these days focus on a lot of ‘pulling’ movements to develop strength in your back and biceps.

Chest and Tri’s

The other weekly alternating session is focused on more ‘pushing’ movements which promotes development in your chest and triceps.

Saturdays are not solely focused on strength workouts like our mid week classes, instead we focus on endurance and strength simulataneously.

Meet The Team

Defianz Calisthenics is headed up by our 3 ‘class reps’, Shaun Gordon, Kendra Dykman and Tinika Joubert, who have all earned their titles through years of hard work and dedication. Shaun, with his knowledge of Martial Arts as well as Latin and Ballroom dancing; Kendra, with her extensive knowledge of Biokinetics and Yoga; and Tinika with her tenacity and results driven attitude – combined, are the reason that Defianz Calisthenics has so many success stories to boast about.
